Sylvia Stewart has been involved in the design and production of silver jewelry since 1990. She apprenticed by helping her mother produce Vintage style jewelry to sell in the family boutique. After nearly 10 years of being an assistant, she decided to try the business herself. "I had so many ideas and designs in my head that were ready to be expressed. That's when I started Sylvia jewelry design. My sterling, gem and pearl designs are influenced by an exposure to antique and romantic jewelry. I like to create styles that are fun and whimsical while still being timeless."

styles are unique because she designs and produces her own findings, such as earring and necklace parts, and unique chains. Sylvia does her designing in Northern California, where her inspiration is well fed by the natural beauty of the area, and the artistic vitality of San Francisco, which is close to her home.

original sterling designs, such as custom chain, earwires and necklace components are crafted by artisans in Bali, Indonesia. Silverwork is a cottage industry in Bali, with families operating small workshops in their homes, where they can work together, surrounded by their children and extended families. She has been lucky to find talented and artistic silversmiths who take pride in what they do, often contributing to the creative process with their Balinese aesthetic.

"I personally know the craftsmen who have made my sterling findings. I have developed friendships with these artisans and enjoy my visits with them, joining in the family gatherings and ceremonies which make life in Bali so beautiful. The process of creating my designs is very inspiring and rewarding, from start to finish. I hope that this is reflected in the beauty and quality of my jewelry."
